Sri Lanka’s Hambantota int’l port sees 40 pct growth in 2024

COLOMBO, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — Sri Lanka’s Hambantota International Port (HIP) has recorded a substantial increase in its operational volumes, achieving a 40 percent growth so far in 2024, Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) said in a press statement on Monday.
This figure could reach 50 percent by the end of the year, it said.
Lance Zuo, general manager of commercial and marketing, said this demonstrates HIPG’s expertise in networking and marketing, managing port operations, and HIP’s ability to efficiently handle rising volumes.
This achievement not only showcases the port’s effectiveness but HIPG’s commitment to its continuous development, in terms of increased efficiencies, and strategic investments in infrastructure and services, he said.
HIPG said significant growth has been noted in Bulk/Break-bulk, gas, marine services, and container segments, solidifying Hambantota Port’s position as a key player in the maritime market.
The port is increasingly recognized for its strategic location and efficient services, making it a preferred destination for transshipment and logistical services, said HIPG. ■
